let's talk about sex.

Sex has always been an open topic with my Madre. When I was little I first asked about it because while watching Full House a breaking news interruption come on and it showed something happening in Somalia. They mentioned AIDS, I asked what AIDS and then more questions came to follow. I was in elementary school and knew what sex was, the real names for body parts (as well as their nick names), and where babies came from. I also had a very thorough sex education class during the 6th and 7th grade. Granted, class was fun and there were lots of giggles, but it was very thorough with the information. I can honestly say that I learned more from my middle school sex ed. class than from any other class I've taken since. I'm thankful for that education and am so glad that the Christian education idea never went through. And, I'm not saying that a religious education is bad, but in my shoes it wouldn't have helped (besides, my mom is an ordained minister, you don't think I was somewhat living in a fish bowl already?).

All this comes up because yesterday @McCainBlogette had mentioned that Playboy wrote an article about her (http://www.playboy.com/articles/forum-newsfront-blonde-fire/index.html). I read the article, also read her post on The Daily Beast (http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-05-07/the-gop-is-clueless-about-sex/) and I reflected on those sex ed. memories.
I brought this up to my Madre last night and she agreed that teaching an abstinence-only education is wrong (she then decided to tell me that at her church they are currently having sex ed classes for the kids there, and suggesting abstinence, but giving them very thorough information on everything else) and that she believes it should be a topic in all schools, whether public or private, and religious institutions, that should be open for discussion. She also agreed with the fact that parents may teach, and consistently talk to their kid(s), but in the end it'll be the kid making the decisions and parents just need to put trust in their children. I've dated a few people that weren't well liked by Madre, but she allowed me to make my decisions and, luckily, her congregation knew that I made my decisions and that I'm an independent spirit. I mentioned in that the article was more about the GOP and sex, but we veered toward the church/sex topic instead.

This also reminded me of when Pastor Ed Young (http://www.edyoungblog.com/) had encouraged his congregation to have sex for seven days (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPOhQ-nHNfI) a lot of people were curious as to why a Pastor was saying this; as well as some being outraged for a Pastor to say such a thing. I know my great grandmother was kinda outraged, but she was brought up during the Hush Hush Times of such topics (same for my Nanny, but then again she always has some interesting slips of the tongue for someone against sex being a public topic). My Madre always likes to talk about sex, in the respect that it was openly discussed in the Bible therefore we can openly discuss the needs of humans. (This also brings her to the topic of how she's so against man made religious rules, i.e. Catholicism).

And, I know I've veered in different directions with this, but it's on my mind. Along with a friend emailing me saying, "I may be getting married in a Catholic church to make my parents happy, but I will not go to marriage counseling with a priest. They don't know anything about sex! At least they shouldn't, straight or not!"

c'est tout.

In the mean time, I've been having crazy dreams lately. I'm not even having any chocolat or sugar before passing out, which has proven to give me crazy dreams before. The only explanations that come from my Tia on this one is, "well, the moon was... last night, so this means that..." or, she may have a dream similar to one that I have on or about the same night which proves that our personal moons are aligned (no matter what point of the moon cycle we're in).
